Jorge L. Arrizurieta, Founding Director of the Interamerican Ethanol Commission and Chair, International Policy Group of Akerman Senterfitt will moderate a panel discussing ethanol and trends in foreign direct investment on Saturday, February 2nd. Among the participants in the panel will be IEC Co-Chair Roberto Rodrigues and IEC U.S.  Executive Director Brian C. Dean.

INVITATION LETTER

Akerman Senterfitt extends a warm invitation to join us in Miami for Lex Mundi’s North America Regional Conference, January 31-Feburary 2, 2008.  The programs promise to be enlightening, and the social events are designed to showcase our unique entertainment and cultural destination. 

The first day of the conference, Thursday, January 31, will feature practice group and committee meetings, as well as a morning workshop on rainmaking organized by the Women and the Law Committee.  Thursday programs will conclude with events jointly organized by the Association of Corporate Counsel's South Florida Chapter, Lex Mundi and our firm.  Mark Chandler, General Counsel of Cisco Systems, will moderate a panel exploring the impact of technology and the Internet on the practice of law.  Corporate counsel will be invited to this presentation and the dinner reception that follows.

Friday morning will start with a breakfast hosted by one of the Lex Mundi corporate sponsors, Global Solutions (Fidelity).  The opening program on Friday will feature panelists from the Client Advisory Council.  Dave Roll, Managing Director of the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation, will then lead a program featuring the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation Advisory Board and other social entrepreneurs.  University of Miami President Donna E. Shalala will address us at lunch.  Practice group and committee meetings will round out the afternoon. 

Philips Speech Processing will host a breakfast for attendees on Saturday morning with a presentation on Revisiting the Art of Dictation.  Plenary sessions on Saturday will focus on Lex Mundi initiatives including best practices in referral tracking, professional development, and practice group activities. A special program on Latin America: Trends in Foreign Direct Investment will focus on the growing global concerns about ethanol and alternative energy and on the ongoing effect of bilateral investment treaties.

Our firm has arranged a variety of interesting and exciting social events and excursions.  The opening dinner reception will be held at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel Thursday evening.  Friday evening, we will have a reception and dinner at the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts.  Saturday afternoon we will enjoy an excursion on the Biscayne Lady yacht which will sail along the Biscayne Bay.  Cocktails and dinner at the unique Moore Building in Miami’s Design District will close out the conference weekend on Saturday evening.  We look forward to your visit and sharing our city’s vibrant culture with you.
